THE EARLY DAYS

Butter Goods is a streetwear and skate wear brand that was established in 2008 by two friends from Perth, Australia, Garth Mariano and Matt Evans, who had been involved in the local skateboarding scene for many years.

After working in the skate industry for a long time and learning the ins and outs of the business as local skate shop employees, Matt and Garth started to notice that all the cool Australian brands they grew up loving were no longer in business or weren’t run by skateboarders anymore. That’s when they decided dive head first into graphic design with the idea to later launch their own brand. One that is deeply rooted in skateboarding, but also inspired by their love for jazz and hip-hop music from the 90s and early 2000s.

“In 2007, we quit our jobs to go study graphic design. After we got some graphic skills under our belt, we started making our first run of tees.”– Garth Mariano & Matt Evans, Butter Goods founders

A BRAND ROOTED IN 90S NOSTALGIA

The skateboard culture of the 90s and 2000s is an obvious source of inspiration, as the founders grew up during that era. The cuts of the pieces are wide, feature large prints and are generally made from thick fabrics. Butter Goods clothing is casual and comfortable, combining music, skate and sportswear with a vintage touch.

In the years that followed its inception, the brand quickly gained recognition for its unique aesthetic, characterized by bold graphics, vibrant colors, and a playful yet refined approach. Butter Goods' designs often feature tasteful illustrations, abstract patterns, and clever typography, all of which pay homage to the artistry and freedom of expression found in 90s and early 2000s skateboarding and music.

“The combination of a pretty wide taste in music mixed with late 90s skateboarding is the dominant reference point for a lot of what we do.”

From the streets of Perth to the global stage, Butter Goods' influence is still growing to this day. The brand's dedication to quality and attention to detail soon attracted a loyal following of skaters, artists, and fashion enthusiasts alike. Its distinct style resonated with those seeking a blend of streetwear and sophistication, as Butter Goods effortlessly bridged the gap between skate culture, streetwear and even high fashion.

In 2023, Butter Goods celebrates 15 years at the forefront of skateboarding and streetwear cultures. Needless to say, we are excited and proud to welcome this extremely sought-after label to our brands mix.

 A GREAT SKATE TEAM

More than just making clothing, Butter Goods is also supporting some of the best skaters in the world. In fact, one of the aspects that sets Butter Goods apart is its commitment to supporting the skateboarding community.

Over the years, the brand has assembled a crew of talented individuals that embodies the spirit of Butter Goods through their creativity, skill, and individuality. The team consists of some of the most stylish skaters from around the world, each bringing their unique style and personality to the brand. Among the squad, Adilson Pedro from Portugal, Philly Santosuosso from New Orleans, Aleka Lang from Vancouver, Dougie George from the UK and much more. As you can see, this once small Aussie brand grew up to be able to support a very diversified and international crew of skaters, therefore proving their loyalty to skateboarding, the actual roots of this great company.

Skateboarding is like one big community. Opportunities, team, trips, all these things expand naturally through connections in skating

– Garth Mariano & Matt Evans, Butter Goods founders

The Butter Goods skate team is more than just a group of athletes; they are a collective of artists, storytellers, and ambassadors of the brand's ethos. Through their videos, photos, and performances, they inspire a new generation of skaters to push their boundaries and express themselves authentically. With their talent and dedication, they have helped elevate Butter Goods' presence in the skateboarding community, solidifying the brand as a true force to be reckoned with.
