A telltale sign that spring is on its way, Dizzle Entertainment announces that the 12th edition of the Ride Shakedown presented by Videotron will be back at Mont Saint-Sauveur April 5 and 6. Again this year, the most important Slopestyle snowboard competition in the country will amaze the 25,000 spectators there to witness the skills of 40 professional athletes competing for a total cash prize of $50,000, which includes $20,000 for the winner of Saturday’s main event. Sébastien Toutant will attempt to defend his 2012 title. This year, the rider from l’Assomption and four-time champion of the Ride Shakedown climbed the podium twice at TTR tour events, both in Big Air and Slopestyle, on top of having finished first in the Big Air tour ranking.
Toutant will need to keep an eye on the up-and-comer of this season, Maxence Parrot from Bromont. This winter, Parrot was accorded the title of second champion in Slopestyle at the X Games presented in Colorado, and was also crowned winner of the Big Air O’Neill Evolution in
Switzerland. Along with them we will also find Japanese Yuki Kadono, member of the Ride Snowboards team and winner of the Beijing Oakley Shaun White Air & Style, as well as Norwegian Stale Sandbech, member the Oakley team and bronze medalist in the recent X Games Big Air.
Amongst the Quebecers we will also have Frank April (Rivière-du-Loup), rail pro and winner of the X Games Real Snow, Antonin Chamberland (Ste-Adèle) and Charles Reid (Mont Tremblant). The complete list of participants will be available online on the event website at www.rideshakedown.com.
In addition to these top names, 80 amateurs will take part in the Oakley qualifications in the hopes of earning their spot in the semi-finals against the invited professional athletes. Those interested can still sign up on the Ride Shakedown website. This grand snowboarding event remains free again this year for spectators, but those who want to reserve their seat in the stands can purchase their ticket HERE.
New for 2013!
"We are happy to be back again this year to present an event created for the riders, which has become a must for fans of snowboard and action sports of all ages," declares Patryck Bernier, cofounder of Dizzle Entertainment, producer of the Ride Shakedown. "The Ride Shakedown is a pillar of the snowboard culture in Canada and once again this year, we will innovate by presenting new ideas,” maintains Brendan O’Dowd, business partner of Patryck Bernier, mentioning his pride of seeing the event appear in the Top 10 snowboarding events of 2012 according to Transworld Snowboarding Magazine.
-More than a competition, the Ride Shakedown is a happening to celebrate snowboarding, action sports and the culture that surrounds it all. In this mindset, the vendor village will be even more interactive and will double in size with a larger amount of participants from the action sports industry. Thanks to DC Shoes, the skateboard mini-ramp will be back again this year in the village.
-A rail setup, always unique and renewed year after year to surprise and allow athletes to impress the crowd, which will be revealed exclusively on the Videotron Facebook page at facebook.com/videotron right before the event, on April 5.
-The Big Air jump will be larger for the athletes to execute even more spectacular tricks.
-On top of the skateboard halftime show, the mini-pro halftime show will allow 13-and-unders to shred on a setup adapted to their skill level in the Ride Shakedown course. This segment is to promote youth in snowboarding and demonstrate the accessibility of the sport.
