EMPIRE SKATEPARKS REVIEW – FARNHAM, LEVIS AND TROIS-RIVIÈRES

EMPIRE SKATEPARKS REVIEW – FARNHAM, LEVIS AND TROIS-RIVIÈRES

We’re back with another skatepark review article featuring 3 new parks that are definitely worth a visit. This week, we travel to Trois-Rivières, Lévis and Farnham to visit their brand new and skateboarder-built concrete skateparks.

It’s crazy to think that just a few years ago, there was only a handful of good concrete skateparks in the whole province. Things have definitely changed and the days of metal prefab obstacles is finally over. Nowadays, every single town in the province is looking to have his own concrete park. Good thing the skatepark building business is now in the hands of real skateboarders!

We’d like to give a major shout out and thank you to Rick Design Skateparks, Papillon Skateparks, New Line and all the true skateboarders who took action and got involved in the skatepark building business. They brought their knowledge to the table and the result is amazing. The Bad Skatepark era is officially over!

FARNHAM

Farnham is one of Papillon skatepark’s latest babies and it’s a fun one. As per usual, the skatepark’s concrete ground is smooth as can be while the flow is smooth and easy to understand. Curated with only the best obstacle a skatepark needs, this one really has every type of obstacle you need to have fun.

THE STREET SECTION

If you like to skate rails, you’ll be please by the new Farnham skatepark. With 8 rails that are all different and made to do different types of skating, the metal bar lovers like ourselves will definitely have a blast. Pole jam, flat bar, A-frame, rainbow rail on top of a bank as well as a few down rails and top rails, you’ll probably need more than one session there to experience them all.

Among other street obstacles, you’ll find a few classics like a flat ledge/manual pad, a hip, a smooth pyramid as well as top and down ledges. The park also offers a few novelty features like a bank to curved ledge, which is super fun to skate. All in all, we can promise that street skaters won’t have time to be bored at the new Farnham Skatepark.

THE TRANSITION SECTION

Despite being more of a street oriented build, the Farnham skatepark has good transitions. In one corner of the place, a big roll-in accompanied by a corner ¼ pipe that’s perfect to keep going through the park with speed, to sit on long grinds or even to blast airs if you feel like it.

In the opposite corner of the park, you’ll find a perfect mini-ramp including some new type of step-up spine bringing you back in the middle of the park. The perfect ramp to warm up. The middle part of the skatepark includes a nice speed bump allowing you to keep going at good speed as well as a volcano to redirect yourself in the skatepark.

TROIS-RIVIÈRES

Yes! Trois-Rivières now has its own concrete skatepark thanks to Newline Skateparks out of California. It was about time! The new TR PARK is small, but definitely wort a visit, especially if you like to skate transitions. The skatepark’s flow is linear and easy to figure out while the nature around the place makes it a great spot to just hang out with friends in between skate sessions.

THE STREET SECTION

The street section at the Trois-Rivières Park is pretty small, but has everything you need to get your skate fix. The street section is concentrated in the middle part of the park and features different types of flat ledges, a small step up, a manual pad and a down rail. The street section is bordered by a wide bank that’s sick to skate as is as much as using it to get back into the transition section with speed.

THE TRANSITION SECTION

That’s the best part of the TR skatepark as it is litteraly surrounded by transitions. On one side of the park, a half bowl setup connecting to elbow shaped corner pocket ¼ pipe via a nice corner hip. following this, a massive pyramid including a step up, a bank to round ledge and a big hip.

On the other end of the park, you’ll find 2 big roll-ins and an extra-wide curved ¼ pipe that ideal for long grinds as well as to blast some airs. Last but not least, the high and steep Trois-Rivières bank that follows the curved ¼ pipe. For tricks or simply to pump back into the park, this obstacle is a must. If you like to cruise small transitions and are in the Trois-Rivières area, we suggest you hit this one asap!

LÉVIS

Another new one from the Papillon Skateparks crew. This one is a bit small, but so fun and different from what we’re used to see, especially at the transitions level. The lines make it easy to skate without being in anyone’s way and the layout is perfect to keep a good speed and take time to setup in the street section.

Trying to hit that crazy rainbow ¼ pipe? Check out the map below:

THE STREET SECTION

Despite being simple, the street section at the Lévis skatepark is vast and has a very skate-friendly layout. The section is concentrated on one line, with obstacles in the middle, a small ¼ pipe on one end and a small bank to ledge on the other. Close to the quarter pipe, you’ll find two shin high flat ledges and manual pads to please the more technical skaters. In between both ledges a flat bar that has two different heights. You can use the whole thing as a drop down flat rail, but you can also practice new tricks on the small part and bring them to the bigger one once you have it on lock.

Following the flat bar / flat ledge section, you’ll find a low a-frame bump and ledge with a down rail on one side. bordering the a-frame is one of the rainbow quarter pipe’s side, separating the street section from the transition section.

THE TRANSITION SECTION

This one is really fun as the different types of transitions are litteraly forming a bowl alongside the park’s street section. First, the rainbow quarter pipe mentioned earlier. That’s an obstacle we’re not used to see too often. Use it as a spine, to get speed and do up or down grinds or simply to hit the following corner transitions the park features.

Right in front of our beloved rainbow shaped QP stand two big corner pockets that are perfect for all of your transitions cravings. With a speed bump in the middle of it, there will be no shortage of speed when skating this section of the park. This one’s also a must.
