We had the chance to speak with Balti to know more about him, his art, and his signature design for the new Burton Blossom snowboard. Enjoy!
Hi Balti! Before getting into the interesting stuff, please introduce yourself. Hello! My name is Baltimore Loth, I am 27 years old. I grew up in Saint-Hippolyte and moved to Montreal for high school. I now live in Squamish, BC. When and how did you get into art? All my family is making art, my dad does a bunch of stuff like paintings, sculptures, illustrations, etc. My grand-pa does paintings, my older brother is a concept artist for Ubisoft, my younger brother is all about stop motion and my mom is a photographer and she makes coussins and jewelry! Indeed, it’s pretty natural for me to do art, since I've always been around it and doing it.
Your art takes a lot of different forms. From drawings and paintings to sculptures, tats and more. What‘s your favorite medium to work with these days and why? Everything starts from a drawing, so I would say this is my favorite medium, it really sparks my imagination once I’m happy with what I’ve got, otherwise I love doing metal work if I have the chance. We just received the Burton Blossom in stores and the graphic looks amazing. Congrats! How did the Burton collab come about? My friend Niels Shack, who designed the blossom the past year proposed me to be part of this project and I had to say yes!
What’s the inspiration behind the art on the Blossom board? I usually love riding old boards because the graphics were always so authentic. Snowboarding in the 90’s was so bad-ass! Therefore we went for a break loose composition and style, not too twin looking. How does it feel to work with a company as legendary as Burton? Feels pretty cool. It is certainly a dream come true to have such a chance! I daydreamed of this situation, as a child! I am so happy to see all the greatest boarders enjoying the board!
You’ve been snowboarding a lot out West lately. What’s your current favorite place to ride? I Have been living in British-Columbia for a little more than 2 years now, I work on the terrain park at Mt. Seymour, definitely one of my favorite places to ride. The area and the weather is unique! Do you plan on trying out the Blossom this Winter? Of course! I feel like a low-key pro with this board! Any shows or special projects coming up that we should know about? I like to keep things as a surprise! I enjoy making stuff for friends company. I got some skateboard designs on the way and more. I also love to make off-site shows, hopefully I’ll make one in Vancouver really soon!
This Burton board has been a staple in the All-Terrain category for years and is not about to give its place anytime soon.
