TNF’S THERMOBALL ECO: AN ECO-FRIENDLY FALL ESSENTIAL

Thermoball Explained

The Thermoball technology is TNF’s answer to a huge problem for outdoors lovers. Whilst natural goose down was the most desirable insulation for Winter jackets and boasted great breathability that was still unmatched by any synthetic offering, down’s greatest shortfall was its inability to withstand even a lighter rain shower.

Providing ultra-light warmth in all conditions since its creation in 2011, Thermoball offers a breakthrough alternative to traditional down and synthetic insulation, offering low-weight, loft and warmth of traditional down, with the wet-weather performance of a synthetic.

In order to do so, the North Face joined forces with PrimaLoft® insulation and created synthetic clusters that are basically mimicking down clusters, but lighter, warmer and more waterproof. Unlike traditional continuous filament synthetic insulation, Thermoball traps heat within smaller air pockets, sewn into the garment to retain warmth. However, unlike down, the synthetic fiber doesn’t get wet and therefore doesn’t lose its loft.

This revolutionary solution allows you to enjoy the same amounts of warmth expected of a traditional down garment, with the lighter weight anticipated from synthetic clothing. Other than being the best jacket for your buck year after year, the new version of the TNF Thermoball has a bunch of new features making it even better than it already was. Features like the fact that all Thermoball jackets are now made with recycled materials.

True to its new “Eco” name, the Thermoball packs a number of new sustainable features. For one, the outer shell and inner lining of the jacket feature 100-percent-recycled nylon. Please note that the the “matte” and “print” finished jackets also utilize fully recycled materials.

In addition, The North Face swapped out the standard PrimaLoft polyester fill for a 100-percent-recycled variation. Importantly, the changes have been nicely integrated into the overall design and haven’t had any noticeable impact on performance and look at all. The same great jacket, but now with a nice eco-conscious feel.
