Some still tend to treat sunglasses as a fashion accessory only, but before the aesthetics and the look, a great pair of sunglasses should always have your eyes protection as priority. We love Oakley sunglasses because they excel in both categories, style and functionality.
The most next level technology to ensure your eyes health mixed with the most banging looks. You simply can’t go wrong with these. We know for a fact as we tested a few Oakleys in one of the sunniest places on the planet, Colombia. That’s right! After testing some of our favorite Oakley models under the strong sun of Colombia, South America, we can confirm that they are good, really good. Only a few hundred kilometers away from the Equator, Colombia’s sun rays are heavy and dollar store sunglasses just won’t do it. Quality is essential when it comes to sunglasses, but in Colombia, it was mandatory. Let alone the fact that we were skating every day, we were sweating and moving a lot, really putting our Oakleys to the test!
At the end of our 14 days trip, our shades didn’t fail to have our backs, not even once. Our eyes were nice and protected, our visions were optimized and our looks were buttery smooth. Check these out and learn how the following Oakley models made a big difference for us during our hectic adventure in Medellin, Colombia.
The Holbrook
The Holbrook sunglasses are on the next level when it comes to eye protection due to Oakley’s new Plutonite lens material. This technology basically prevents your eyes from damage attributed to ultraviolet light by filtering out 100% of all UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light, which was strong in Colombia. In the long run, wearing these will help you to avoid ending up with problems such as cataracts, pterygium and macular degeneration, aka vision weaknesses. We’re serious here, this could happen to all of us. Without mentioning about the uncomfortable feeling and instant headache you get when strong sun rays glare in your face when you get out of the house in the morning.
The Holbrook quickly became our go to on this trip. They are light, comfortable and almost impossible to break. The ideal combination for those who like to keep it moving. Other than protecting our eyes from the strong Colombian sun with its revolutionary Plutonite lens material, the Holbrook was also perfect for us as we skated every single day and really put our sunglasses through some rough times. We were lucky to have these as Oakley sunglasses are known to offer uncompromising protection against high-velocity and high-mass impact. All in all, the Holbrook is a great all terrain sunglasses model and will always have your back when you most need it!
The Latch
This one is a little more flashy, but definitely helped us out when we had to get out of the house on those extra bright Colombians mornings. The Latch did the trick and just like any other Oakley models, prevented us from getting our eyes hurt with a remarkable efficiency! One thing that really stood out about the Latch model is its level of comfort. With its silicone nose pads for a smooth adjustment and Three-Point Fit system allowing for the ultimate comfort and performance due to the lenses being in precise optical alignment.
The vision’s quality is also next level on these and was really helpful while skating bright Colombian spots. First of all, let's talk about the Prizm lenses, one of Oakley's biggest trademarks. Basically, these revolutionary lens will enhance color, contrast and details for an optimized vision experience. Perfect to see where you’re going while skateboarding under a bright sun! Other features of these sunglasses include a HD polarized lens, Plutonite lens material for total UV protection, optimal precision and impact resistance and last but not least, a crystal clear vision.
The Frogskins
Another Oakley staple! These are sunglasses you can always count on. We love the simple style of the Frogskins, they look good in any situation, are extremely light and match perfectly with pretty much everything. It goes without saying that all of this is accompanied by technologies and innovations that will allow you to be comfortable all while being heavily protected at the vision level.
The Frogskins are on the next level of comfort and feature a semi-rimless frame that offers incredible durability and an all-day lightweight feel. These were our favorite when it came to skateboarding in Colombia. The three-Point Fit insures comfort and performance due to the lenses being in precise optical alignment while the Prizm lenses enhance colors, contrasts and details for an optimized experience. This one also features the Plutonite lens material, filtering 100% of all UVA, UVB and harmful blue light, seriously one of the best UV protection you can find on the market.
The Coldfuse
The Coldfuse model has got everything that’s common to Oakley sunglasses, but is a bit more seen as a lifestyle model, which came in handy pretty much every day during our Colombia trip. For the chill late afternoon beer or after session on the local terrasse, these are flawless. With a distinct aesthetic that features 24 components held together in one single design, the Coldfuse will never go unnoticed, wherever you are.
With an insane comfort level and a progressive lightweight titanium frame construction, the Coldfuse simply feels good and light on your face. This was our Colombian leisure shade of choice. With its Three-point fit designed to hold your eyewear in precise optical alignment and added adjustable silicone nose pads for the ultimate fit, the comfort level is off the charts. These are also blessed with Oakley’s Prizm technology, allowing for a flawless color enhancement, buttery vision and clear contrasts. Ideal for a smooth transition between day and night.
