Description

The Burton [ak] Baker Hooded Down is a packable insulating mid-layer built for backcountry tourers and alpine hikers who need reliable warmth without the bulk. Worn solo on frigid summit stops or layered under a shell during sustained pushes, it earns its place in any serious touring kit.

At its core is 800-fill down encased in a Pertex® Lightweight 20D Nylon Ripstop shell with a water-repellent coating — a combination that keeps weight minimal and packability high while preserving loft and warmth in cold, variable conditions. A discontinuous quilt pattern maximizes down loft across the body, and the regular fit accommodates a base layer underneath without restricting movement. Stretch binding at the cuffs and a fitted full-time hood with stretch binding at the opening seal out cold air, while pit zip vents give you immediate temperature control without stripping off a layer. When the climb heats up, the jacket stuffs into its own left handwarmer pocket and rides cleanly in your pack.

Who It's For

This jacket is made for the skier or hiker who runs hot on the approach but needs a fast, capable warm layer ready at every exposed ridge or windy col. The pit zips make it especially practical for high-output touring, where temperature swings are constant. If your pack space is tight and your margin for error is low, this is the insulator that won't let you down.

FAQ

  • Can I wear the Baker Down as a standalone jacket? Yes — it's designed to work as a standalone layer in cold, low-output conditions and as a mid-layer under a shell when you need maximum protection.
  • How does it pack down? It stuffs into its own left handwarmer pocket, making it easy to stow and retrieve one-handed mid-tour.
