JOIN THE MOVEMENT!
Climate change
Burton's head office in Burlington Vermont is 100% powered by renewable energy sources. Cars are also a huge source of carbon emissions, so Burton encourages "creative travel" by providing bicycles, charging stations for electric cars, specialists for the maintenance of employees' bicycles and parking facilities for cyclists and carpoolers.
Bluesign® Certification
Bluesign® is the ultimate reference to ensure that products are free of chemicals that could potentially be harmful for you or the environment. This certification means that products are manufactured without wasting water or energy, and without polluting the water or the atmosphere. Today, 85% of the brand's technical garments, 50% of their base layers and 38% of their bags are bluesign® certified. Actually a big deal!
Products after-life
Beyond the lifetime warranties on several Burton products, the brand designs its products with the end of their life cycle in mind. If a product is returned to us, Burton begins by trying to fix it. On the other hand, if it has to be replaced, the brand makes sure that nothing ends at the dump. Last year, Burton recovered 60 to 85% of each returned boards by recycling its materials, which were then used to make glass mounts for the brand's local breweries, shelves and even badges for employees.
Waste management
In 2012, Burton has set a huge goal regarding waste management: to reduce its waste production by at least 50% by the next three years. And they got there easy! By installing more than 30 compost bins inside their Vermont's head office, exchanging employees' empty cans for mugs and carefully sorting their waste, Burton has now reduced its waste production to 67% and expects to reach 75% by 2020. Huge.
Packaging
Another of Burton's objectives for 2020 is to achieve the use of recyclable or compostable packaging made from 80% recycled and used materials, and above all that all product packaging is adapted to the size of the product. end of the year, avoids a lot, a lot of waste.
